Neurocore Provides A Clearer Outlook On Depression

Depression is both one of the most common and most misunderstood mental illnesses in America. Most depression diagnoses are during adulthood and disproportionately of women but the fact remains that depression can afflict anyone at any point in their life. Many persons diagnosed with depression respond very well to treatment, however, two-thirds of depression sufferers never seek help. One reason for this is the stigma attached to depression and mental health issues in general. Much of this stigma can be eliminated with more education pertaining to factual information regarding depression.

The Source Of Depression Is Not Always Evident

There is no single cause that can be identified as the cause of depression. Many factors are often at play and those recently experiencing a stressful life even are at greater risk for developing depression. Studies indicate that there can also be a genetic basis for depression.

Sufferers Experience Different Forms Of Depression

There is more than one diagnosable form of depression. Some common ones are Major Depressive Disorder, which is marked by lack of self-esteem and ongoing sadness for more than two weeks. Persistent Depressive Disorder is a longer lasting disorder that causes sufferers to demonstrate symptoms of depression every day for at least two years but does not usually reach levels associated with major depressive episodes. Postpartum depression starts after childbirth and lasts from two weeks to a year. And there is also Seasonal Affective Depression which happens in winter months when sunlight is minimal.

Symptoms Are Not Always Apparent

Depression symptoms differ in individuals. It is quite common for depression sufferers to feel sad, empty, or numb. Sleep patterns can change drastically in either direction and there can be episodes of sudden weight loss or gain. And with high-functioning depression, there may be no discernible signs present.
